IRI Delegation Participates in the 2023 Copenhagen Democracy Summit

On May 15, the International Republican Institute’s (IRI) Executive Vice President Kimber Shearer participated in the Copenhagen Democracy Summit and participated in the session on Standing Up for Women, Life and Freedom. Introducing one of the spotlight series speakers Naheed Farid, an Afghanistan Parliamentarian in-exile, she touched on women’s role in the fight for freedom around the world.  READ MORE HERE.

How IRI Contributed to the Second Summit for Democracy

From March 28-30, 2023, the International Republican Institute (IRI), along with other non-governmental and governmental partners, participated in the Second Annual Summit for Democracy (S4D). The 2021 initiative led by United States President Joe Biden and now co-hosted by the Republic of Zambia, the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, and Costa Rica, is widely recognized at a time when world leaders are seeking to secure confidence in democratic governance and better respond to their citizen’s needs.  READ MORE HERE.

IRI Participates in the Second Summit for Democracy in San José, Costa Rica

Last month, the International Republican Institute’s (IRI) Youth and Inclusion practice led a delegation to the second Summit for Democracy (S4D) in Costa Rica, comprised of 15 youth leaders and democracy activists. In partnership with the governments of the United States, Costa Rica, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, and Zambia, the Summit in Costa Rica brought together hundreds of youth leaders and activists for a series of panels, workshops, and discussions on the role of youth in democratic systems. READ MORE HERE.

Amplifying Youth Voices: How Should Young People Be Included in The S4D Processes?

From November 13-16, 2022, the International Republican Institute’s (IRI) Generation Democracy (GenDem) program convened 36 civil society and political leaders from 25 countries, in Antigua, Guatemala, for the GenDem Global Summit. At the Summit, participants identified strategies and exchanged best practices on innovative ways young people can address the world’s most pressing issues.  READ MORE HERE.

Generation Democracy: For the Youth, by the Youth

In April, the International Republican Institute (IRI) hosted 12 young leaders from Generation Democracy’s Global Member Advisory Board (GMAB) to design and implement a strategic vision for the Network’s global and regional priorities. These 12 democratically elected members serve a key role in ensuring that Generation Democracy continues its shift toward becoming a fully youth-led and serving platform by orientating Network activities in a direction that addresses members’ needs and interests. Youth Forming Collective Action in the Face of Common Challenges

Building from the Democracy in Action Lab in Lilongwe, Malawi earlier this year, the International Republican Institute (IRI) hosted a separate Action Lab in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in coordination with its flagship youth network, Generation Democracy (GenDem). These Action Labs were part of a broader effort in collaboration with the World Movement for Democracy to share youth-led strategies in promoting democratic resiliency in two critical regions.
